WHAT TO DO IF YOUR PET IS LOST

1. Thoroughly search your property and the immediate area.  Be aware that the animal could be scared and hiding or may get into a smaller place than you originally thought was possible.  Check in garages/barns, under porches, in bushes/woods.
2. Put food and water outside.  Also place strong-scented items from your family outside the home.  Animals find their way by scent as well as sound.
3. Make flyers with a color photo of the missing animal.  Post as many as possible within a 1-2 mile radius. Give flyers to neighbors, local businesses, veterinarians, and the local animal shelter. 
4. Use the internet and social media. Lost/found pets can be posted on the following sites (don’t forget to post status updates on sightings and when you find your pet):

5. Call local veterinarian offices during the day. After 5 PM, call veterinarian emergency clinics
6. Contact your local animal control.  In addition to calling, visit in person.  Take copies of your flyer.  Keep going back every few days.  Also check shelters in neighboring counties/towns.
7. Call the city, county, and state road crews, DOT, and Animal Control EVERY DAY to see if they have found your pet's body.
8. Place an Ad in your local newspaper. Some will do this for free.
9. Check the newspaper "found" ads every day.
10. If your pet is microchipped, ensure that the chip is registered and information is up to date.
