Just have to share this "Happy Tails" story about a Pit Bull that was rescued from our county Pound (KGAC). This is "Dixie's" photo and the heart-warming message from her new family. If only the whole nation could change their minds about this breed:
From Dixie’s new Family: “Hi guys, we adopted “Barbie” (now “Dixie”) in July. I just wanted to say thank you so much for her. She has brought such happiness to this family. She is a very good girl. If you had asked me a year ago if I would ever have a Pit Bull I would have said “absolutely not”. That just shows the ignorance people have about this breed. I have to say now, in all honesty, I can't imagine this family with any other breed.
Dixie has changed the view of all our family and friends. She is the kindest, most loving and obedient dog I have ever met. She has stolen our hearts and I can't imagine life without her. We are so grateful to have her and I truly do pray that someday, people do change their perspective on Pit Bulls. They are the best of all worlds. Dixie loves her entire family (we have 2 young kids) and you can see it in her eyes every day. She is happy and loved. We would do absolutely anything for her. I am so happy that we did our research and this girl was brought into our lives. Thank you!" |

Update on “Little Bill” - We had hundreds of responses to Little Bill's story and we are thrilled to share with everyone that he has been adopted into a great home. You may remember he was found on the side of the road near a ditch, resting in a bed he made of pine needles and leaves. He was covered in motor oil and most of his hair was missing, his skin was very red. There is more than one happy ending to Little Bill's story! Many were inspired to help him and because of that, three other beagles that were in a very high kill shelter in MD, were saved and are now in foster homes of their own. Thanks to everyone who cared so much about Little Bill and all the others like him!

This pupster, previously known as Dana, came from an abusive past and was picked up as a "stray" by KGAC. For 7 months she showed up on the "Available for Adoption" flyers that KGARL volunteers put together and distribute in the hopes of finding fur'ever homes for them. FINALLY, on January 28th, this one went HOME. She is now named Maya. There are many spellings and meanings of this name, but in fact, she was named after Maya, the Norse Goddess of Mischief, which is most befitting of her. The BEST breed will always be "RESCUED". |

In light of the excellent report on how wonderfully KGAC has done on finding rescue or adoptive placements for cats this year, I wanted to send you another really great Ursala update - you will recall she was the little feral / semi-feral black kitty who was mostly blind). Her human Dad, JF, has really been spending time with her and working on socializing her. Introducing her to his other cats actually went really well - but the human acceptance thing took more time and effort. I'm happy to report that Ursala will allow herself to be held, will hang out with JF, and accepts pets and snuggles and is purring for him on a near regular basis. She occasionally lets her feral-ness hang out with him, but those episodes are becoming fewer and fewer. She now has a beautiful coat, her dandruff (likely from nerves) is totally gone, and she's doing really, really well. :D
I think it's important, when possible, for each of you to see the result of all the effort you put in and stand back and enjoy your success. I thank you all.

Hemingway came into King George Animal Control (KGAC) with a severely disfigured front leg, which looked like it had been broken and twisted, then left untreated. Of course, we could only hope that this was a horrible accident and not intentionally done to him – we will never know. Regardless of how it happened, Hemingway needed our help.
